Farmhouse & Surrounding Area

The Grounds

  • Enjoy the lawns and paddock respectfully.

  • Do not light fires or use disposable barbecues in the garden.

  • Keep out of the fenced-off drainage system.

  • Keep the grounds tidy—dispose of all litter properly.

The Environment

  • The Farmhouse is in a working forest; respect the Countryside Code (copy available in the library).

  • A variety of local wildlife and plants can be explored using printed guides at the Farmhouse.

  • The village stream is a Site of Special Scientific Interest—keep an eye out for otters!

Dormitories

  • Dorms should not be used as common rooms. Instead, use the lounge, dining area, or grounds for socializing.

  • Encourage tidiness by conducting a fun morning inspection—consider offering a prize for the best-kept dorm.

Lounge Fire

  • Prepared logs are in the shed near the car park.

  • Only use wood—coal is not permitted.

  • Use firelighters and kindling to start the fire.

  • Adjust air controls properly:

    • Both control rods out until fully alight.

    • Gradually close the left rod once the fire is going.

    • Right-hand lever controls burn rate.

  • Do not waste logs—they are purchased, not collected from the woods.

Drying Room

  • Located at the end of the Farmhouse, accessible from the outside.

  • Coin-operated meter takes £1 and £2 coins.

  • Before using, spin clothes in the scullery’s spin dryer.

  • Hang clothes properly for good air circulation.
