Fire Safety

  1. Upon Arrival:

    • Ensure everyone in the group knows where the fire extinguishers, break-glass points, and exits are located in the Farmhouse.

    • Fire alarm devices (break-glass points, smoke & heat detectors) are installed along exit routes and near external doors.

  2. Daily Inspection:

    • Check the fire alarm panel in the entrance lobby daily to make sure only the green power light is lit.

    • If any light other than green is on, call 0800 133 7946 (24-hour emergency line) for advice.

  3. In Case of Alarm Activation:

    • Evacuate immediately via the nearest exit and gather on the rear lawn for a headcount. Do not re-enter the building until authorised by the responsible person.

    • If no visible fire is present, the responsible person must check the fire alarm panel for red lights indicating which area triggered the alarm.

    • Investigate the specific zone displayed on the panel. If unsure, call the fire brigade on 999 for assistance.

  1. Resetting the Fire Alarm:

    • If no fire or smoke is found, the alarm can be silenced but only reset if the smoke sensors are clear.

    • If a break-glass point has been triggered, the alarm will be silenced but cannot be reset until the glass is replaced.

    • Replacement glass should be stored above the control panel. If not available, a piece of card can be used temporarily.

To reset the alarm (if no fire is found), follow these steps:

    1. Press 'Menu' once.

    2. Press '2' (Accept) once.

    3. Press '3' four times.

    4. Press 'white' button once.

    5. Press 'red' button once.

    6. Press 'green' button once.

  2. Electrical Power Failure:

    • In the event of a power failure, emergency lights will automatically activate.

    • The fire alarm panel will beep, showing a power fault, but the system will still work on battery backup.

  3. Log Book:

    • The group leader must log that they have informed all group members of fire alarm procedures in the log book next to the alarm panel.

    • Record all alarm activations in the logbook, regardless of the cause.
